Arwain DGC is offering vets, farmers, and agricultural students in Wales an exciting opportunity to gain first-hand experience of how leading farms and veterinary systems in Europe are reducing the risks of antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
Applications are open to participate in the ‘Arweinwyr Arwain DGC Leaders’ Study Tour’ to the Netherlands, affording them valuable insight into the work being done in Europe to help combat antibiotic resistance.
The opportunity is open to vets, farmers, agricultural students, and young farmers club members in Wales aged 18 or over, with the application window closing on June 23rd, 2025.
The Study Tour, which takes place from 21st – 24th October 2025, will include visits to several leading farming locations, academic bodies, and cutting-edge technology and scientific companies.
Participants will gain first-hand insights into sustainable practices for antimicrobial use and share their knowledge with the wider agricultural and veterinary communities at events, conferences, and through social media as AMS (Antimicrobial Stewardship) Ambassadors.
Arwain DGC is a Welsh Government-funded programme dedicated to preventing antibiotic resistance in animals and the environment. It supports farmers and vets through data-driven decisions, innovative technologies, and best practices.
Its goal is to continue positioning Wales as a global leader in the fight against antimicrobial resistance (AMR), by nurturing collaboration, promoting innovation, and sharing knowledge, to ensure that antibiotics remain effective for animal and human health for future generations.
Rhys Jones, Arwain DGC Technical Lead, said, “We are very excited about the Arwain DGC Study Tour. It will allow vets, farmers and students to visit the Netherlands and learn more about agriculture and antimicrobial stewardship in the country.
“This is an excellent networking opportunity, and to increase their knowledge. They will gain first-hand insights into Dutch agricultural practices and their innovative approaches to responsible antibiotic use.
“We look forward to receiving the applications and working with the study tour group to become ambassadors for Arwain DGC, who will champion responsible antibiotic stewardship within their peer groups.”
Potential applicants can also learn more by chatting with the Arwain DGC team. Rhys added, “If you would like a discussion before applying, feel free to get in touch. The team will also be at the RWAS Spring Festival in Llanelwedd this weekend (17th & 18th May) and at the NSA Welsh Sheep event in Brecon (21st May) if you want to drop by. Good Luck, or should I say Veel Succes!”
